Word on Wednesday

Have you joined the WORDLE craze? Every day millions of people try to solve the online puzzle: what is the five-letter word set for the day? You have six guesses maximum with your letters highlighted for correct selection and correct position for each word you enter. Apart from the individual sense of achievement to be had from working out the word of the day within the six goes, the worldwide success of the game (The New York Times have paid the inventor an eye-watering sum to take charge of it) arises from the high level of social exchange that it encourages. Players go online to share their scores and their strategies in a community focused on a shared word.
Some elements of the WORDLE experience maybe like our observation of this time of LENT.
We read in Matthew 4:1 that Jesus ‘was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.’ Alone, secluded from society, Jesus fasted and prayed.
We, too, perhaps seek to make a space for ourselves away from the distractions of life. We focus our thoughts, mindfully seeking out the ‘Key Word’ for the day from God. We may wrestle with our thinking for a while until gradually we reach some point of realisation.
Here are six five-letter words relating to the time Jesus spent in the Desert facing temptation. They may help with our focus during LENT.
