Hi everyone,
Well here we are at the beginning of June. Hope you’re all enjoying this glorious weather! If these were normal times we’d have already been in summer uniform for a couple of months by now!!! But unfortunately our army halls and church buildings are still closed and our uniforms hang in the wardrobes.
However I was thrilled on Sunday morning to see a full hour Celebration for Pentecost on BBC 1, followed by half hour Morning Worship and later Songs of Praise. In addition we have many church services accessible online so I’m convinced that this year the message of Pentecost reached far more people that it has on previous years and that must surely be good!
So I am continuing on the same theme of the Holy Spirit for our songs this week.
The first one was new to me but is a beautiful song, suggested by John.
Suddenly:
In complete contrast and going back several years, many of you will have enjoyed singing our second song.
Every time I feel the Spirit:
We go back much further for our third song, which many of us of a certain age will remember singing in our youth. It is written in 4 part harmony typical of the devotional songs of that time and as the piano simply played the voice parts, it can easily be sung unaccompanied.
Spirit Divine:
Our final song is a recent arrangement of words by John Gowans from the musical ‘Spirit’ which we learned in practice a couple of years ago.
The Spirit of the Lord in me:
So four very different songs this week but one common theme – the Holy Spirit and the effect of His presence on our lives.
Galatians 5 22-23 lists the qualities or fruits that the Holy Spirit can produce in our lives: ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.’ As I read them it struck me that they were all the things our troubled, hurting world needs right now!
We’re going to finish with the song Candle of the Lord’. Use it as a prayer – for yourself and for our hurting world.
