Hi everyone,
After the events of the past week, we’re going to start this evening with Joy Webb’s song ‘Come into our world’. We’ve often sung it in the lead up to Christmas but I’m sure you’ll agree that the words have even greater significance in these days.
Come into our world
Much has been said in recent days about injustice and racism in our world after the dreadful events in Minneapolis USA. But our next song reminds that in the kingdom of God all are welcome and all are equal. The video that accompanies it has some beautiful images and took my mind back to the International Congress which many of us were privileged to attend in 2015. Do you remember that wonderful march down the Mall with Salvationists from all around the world, some in their national costume, with flags flying – all part of our worldwide Army, brothers and sisters in Christ!
They shall come from the east
Our next song was requested by Sian and Alex a couple of weeks ago and seems to fit in this week. The words take the form of a beautiful prayer and focus our thoughts on the One who is the source of strength, courage, love and forgiveness.
God we will give you glory
I don’t know if you, like me, sometimes feel completely overwhelmed by what is going on in our world just now – the unrest, the uncertainty, fears and worries for ourselves and our families! My mind goes into overdrive! It’s then I have to force myself to take a step back, to remind myself of those words of Psalm 46 ‘Be still and know that I am God.’
We’re going to finish with this prayer:
‘Mid all the traffic of the ways,
Turmoils without, within,
Make in my heart a quiet place,
And come and dwell therein.
