New every morning

You may have read the following (or something similar before):
Dear Lord, So far I’ve done alright.
I haven’t gossiped, haven’t lost my temper,
haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or overindulgent.
I’m really glad about that.
But in a few minutes, God,
I’m going to get out of bed.
And from then on,
I’m going to need a lot more help.
Amen
I guess we can all relate to this in some way! We have days when things go well, and other days that just, well…don’t! There are times we jump in with two feet first, our words come out wrong, our actions although well-intended are not received as we had hoped, and so on! There are certainly days when we are all faced with the reality of our human frailties and we might wish we could start the day all over again!
Thankfully, although we are not perfect, we have a very gracious God. A God who offers us a fresh start and a new beginning every time we come to Him. A God who forgives us when we get things wrong, and pours out His mercy and grace so we can live as the redeemed people we are in Him through Jesus.
Lamentations 3:23-24 has always been a favourite verse of mine because it reminds me of the gracious, patient love of God for me, whatever kind of day I’m having:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. That are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Whatever kind of day today is for you, and however it turns out when evening comes, I pray you might be reminded of the gracious, patient, and faithful love of God for you personally – He sees you, He gets what you’re going through, and whether you’re feeling at your best or a bit below par, you are no less loved, cherished and valued by the King of Kings, your Lord, and God.
